Alex Hales and Jonny Bairstow slammed half centuries while Adil Rashid and David Willey's 71-run stand for the last wicket powered England to 282 in the second warm-up match against India A on Thursday at the CCI stadium in Mumbai.
Opting to bat, England lost opener Jason Roy for 25 in the fifth over. However, they were rescued by Alex Hales and Jonny Bairstow, who both struck half centuries and stitched a 74-run stand for the second wicket.
Hales hit a 53-ball 51, including eight fours, while Bairstow slammed 65-ball 64 with the help of 10 fours.
England were cruising at 116/1 when they were jolted by left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem's double blow. Nadeem first removed Hales in the 17th over and then got rid of captain Eoin Morgan (0) in his next over.
Ben Stokes (38) and Bairstow provided some resistance with a 47-run stand for the fourth wicket. However, their stand ended in the 27th over when pacer Ashoke Dinda removed Bairstow.
Thereafter, the visitors lost Jos Buttler (0) and Moin Ali (1) in quick succession and were in trouble at 165/6 in 28.1 overs.
Off-spinner Parvez Rasool then got rid of Chris Woakes (16) and Ben Stokes (38) to leave England at 198/8 in 36 overs.
However, England were revived by Rashid (39) and Willey (38*), who put together 71 runs for the last wicket and helped them finish at 282.
