In a three-page letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Goa BJP senior leader and former minister Dr Wilfred Mesquita has expressed his anger over functioning of Goa's BJP wing.Â
In the letter he alleged that the party is functioning contrary to the vision of the Prime Minister. He also questioned that if PM Modi really believed that country was chocking with corruption then why was Congress workers who have been labelled of corruption inducted into Goa's BJP party.
"Yes, I had written a letter to the Prime Minister. Because I feel the party is moving in some other direction. People who were branded as corrupt are getting entry in BJP and tickets too. How it is going to improve the party's image in Goa? Now will the party say that whatever allegations were levelled against them by BJP in the past is not true?" asked Mesquita.
BJP came in power in Goa on the basis of strong commitment to fight corruption. But by giving welcoming Congress leaders to the party and providing them tickets to contest assembly elections will certainly tarnish the image of party.
NEWLY INDUCTED LEADERS EMBROILED IN CORRUPTION
In his letter, Mesquita mentioned the names of Mavin Godinho and Pandurang Madkaikar who recently got inducted in BJP. Both these leaders have been accused of corruption. However, they have got tickets to contest from Dabolim and Cumbharjua constituencies respectively.
A faction which supports Wilfred felt that one of the reason for the fall out with the tried and tested BJP- MGP alliance is that the tickets promised to these leaders belong to the constituencies where MGP was claiming its stake.
"BJP's stand against corruption has got exposed by this letter of Dr Wilfred. We Goa Forward party has exposed the BJP's scam and this letter verifies that. We want to ask a simple question to Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, who in late 90s he exposed a big power scam against Gudinho and in 2014 he unearthed the land grab of Madkaikar. Now what justification will he be giving to the people of Goa while seeking votes for these two guys?" asked Durgadas Kamat, Spokesperson Goa Forward Party.
Now it will be interesting to see what action Goa BJP takes after this letter got viral. So far Dr Wilfred has no plans to join other party, but certainly he is contemplating to quit if his letter is not taken seriously.
