Makhibaha, April 20: An emotional moment with pensive conclusion embraced nearly hundred participants as they assembled at Makhibaha HS School (formerly High School) recently on the occasion of ‘Satirtha Samaroh’, organized for the first time in the progressive institution of Nalbari district in central Assam. Over fifty former students belonging to 1982-83 HSLC examination batch along with family members attended the function that witnessed various programs like tree plantation in the school premise, commemoration of some departed batch-mates, felicitation to former teachers, vivid interactions among participants etc.
The felicitated teachers including Trailokya Narayan Choudhury, Prafulla Goswami, Narayan Sarma, Yogesh Chandra Sarma, Naren Das, Rameswar Kalita, Mathur Thakuria and Umesh Chandra Kalita recollected the days when this batch was promoted to the tenth standard with lots of expectations, which they fairly materialized with the blessings from the then headmaster Malin Chandra Sarma.
A few students of the batch who met untimely deaths were remembered in the meeting. The participants paid heartfelt tributes to Bhupen Bhattacharya, Phatik Thakuria, Aswini Thakuria, Prahlad Barman, Sivakanta Thakuria, Gopal Das, Dinesh Deka and Dilip Kumar Deka (missing for decades) in the presence of their family members.
The meeting, presided over by Hareswar Dutta, was also graced by the school principal Pratibha Devi, community leader Harsih Bhattacharya, former school employees Rashik Sarma & Jali Haloi, former students including Nabadip Bharali, Niren Thakuria, Hitesh Deka, Saroj Haloi, Pradip Kumar Sarma, Pramod Barman, Golak Pathak, Pankaj Talukdar, Navajyoti Thakuria etc.
A chorus penned by the former students was performed, along with several other programs. The participants resolved to support the institution in particular and the Makhibaha locality as a whole in the coming days. Moreover they decided to assemble at the same school once again in 2020 with more programs and participations. Till then they resolved to encourage the local community students with their full personal capacities.
