Former Union Minister Preneet Kaur today rubbished the charge levelled by Anshul Chhatrapati, son of slain journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati, that Congress leaders had tried to influence the CBI to favour Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in a rape case.
“The Congress has never interfered in the functioning of the judiciary,” she said at an event organised to distribute uniform and shoes among school students in the district’s Ablowal village.
Anshul had recently accused Congress leaders Preneet and Harminder Singh Jassi, and then media adviser to Chief Minister BIS Chahal of trying to mount pressure on the CBI to favour the Sirsa dera head in 2005.
He had alleged that when the CBI had summoned the dera head to New Delhi in 2005, Preneet and her party MLAs camped in the national capital and met then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to influence the investigating agency. Preneet denied to have met Manmohan Singh in connection with the dera chief case.
