Poverty an issue in North Shillong: Alester
SHILLONG: HSPDP candidate from North Shillong, Alestar Diengdoh said though the constituency has a high number of intellectuals, poverty is still prevalent.
Speaking at the general council meeting of the party at Khasi National Dorbar Hall on Friday, Diengdoh, who is contesting the 2018 Assembly elections, said he has seen poverty in the constituency after having visited 3000 homes as part of his election campaign.
“Poor people in the constituency account to about 40 per cent,” the HSPDP candidate said.
Meanwhile, HSPDP president, Ardent Basaiawmoit stated that if elected to power, the party would remove corruption.
On the other hand, he maintained that the party was not against development as alleged by others.
He urged the gathering of supporters to be wise while electing their candidates and not to elect a person because he/she was a close relative or a dear one.
MLA from Nongstoin D Jyndiang and MDCs Teilinia Thangkhiew and Samlin Malngiang among others were also present in the meeting.
