Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) recently announced that the company’s new utility scooter, the Honda Cliq, has breached the 10,000 sales mark in India. Honda launched the scooter in August 2017 and the company was able to achieve this feat in less than four months. Tetsuya Komine, Deputy Director, Sales and Marketing, HMSI shared this information with carandbike.com on the sidelines of the launch of the company’s all-new 125 cc scooter, Honda Grazia. The new Cliq is a 110 cc scooter which is based on the Honda Activa is mainly aimed towards the rural two-wheeler market in India.
At the launch of the Honda Cliq, the company had said that the scooter is more of a practical mobility solution for male and female riders in the rural areas of the country and the company is pretty happy with the scooter’s sales performance. The company initially launched the scooter in Rajasthan followed by a launch in Maharashtra then Tamil Nadu and now the scooter is available across India.
The Honda Cliq is powered by the same 110 cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine that makes 7.9 bhp and develops 8.94 Nm of peak torque paired with a CVT gearbox. The Grazia also comes with the company’s ‘Honda Eco Technology’ (HET) that reduces friction in the engine and also aids in improved fuel efficiency.
To make it suitable for the rural roads Honda has equipped the Cliq with block pattern tyres which offer extra grip on patchy rural roads and comes with a seat height of 743 mm, which will be a comfortable height for most Indian riders. Both the front and the rear comes with spring-loaded hydraulic suspension, and 130 mm drum brakes at both ends. Also, the scooter gets a mobile charging socket in the under seat storage area and HMSI has provided a bigger footboard in order to make the scooter better equipped to tackle extra load and longer seat for improved rideability.
