Lamborghini finally showcases the Urus SUV, starting an all-new lineup for the Italian company that’s famous for its two seater supercars.
The Urus has been on the cards for many years now, close to four years of development and finally the super SUV is officially launched today at Lamborghini’s all-new factory and product line. The #sincewemadeitpossible has been trending for quite sometime by Lamborghini and what the company might be hinting is the all-round capability of the SUV, from the race track to snow to mud plugging, the Urus will be game.
Lamborghini’s new SUV is the fastest from 0-100 kph doing it in 3.6 seconds. This is possible through 641 bhp of power and 627 lb ft of torque from a 4.0 litre twin-turbo V8, that does duty on many sister cars from the VW family. There are carbon ceramics all-round as standard and four wheel steering.
Like the latest Lamborghini’s the Urus also gets a fighter pilot like start button under a flip-up cover. Near that is the Anima lever which controls the whole attitude of the car. There’s the standard Strada, Sport and Corsa, but the Urus has some extras with Neve (snow), Terra (off-road) and Sabbia (sand). The Urus also gets air suspension, so the SUV can be raised and lowered according to each driving mode. There is also the Ego option where you can customise the SUV to your preferences.
Speaking about the looks, it’s all a mis-match of different elements. First looks, the front of the car resembles the Huracan, especially the headlights and the rest looks similar to the Aventador S, that’s enlarged. The rear of the SUV looks similar to the Aventador. There is no madness in the design, the Urus isn’t a looker to say it plain. Atleast they could have placed the exhaust as a single gaping hole through the middle like on the Murcielago and Aventador.
SUV’s seem to be the trend now and is a staple for many car manufacturers to stay in the green and keep the cash registers clicking. We saw the Bentley Bentayga, Porsche’s second SUV the Macan, Jaguar’s F-Pace and the soon to be launched Rolls Royce Cullinan. Maserati also has the Levante. Ferrari doesn’t have an SUV, yet, but they had the FF and the GTC Lusso, four door practical Italian sporty machines.
The Urus is the second SUV from Lamborghini. Yes, they had an SUV before, the LM002, a V12 powered off-road sport utility vehicle. You can say that was a mad SUV and sad to say it didn’t sell that well, with under 400 units sold. With the Urus, Lamborghini might have played it safe? A five-seater practical family SUV that bears the raging bull logo, has the Audi sensibleness gone a bit too far?
Well the Urus will bring Lamborghini lots of money, and lets hope that translates to better supercars and a mind blowing hypercar in the future, something down the lines of the Veneno and the Sesto Elemento.
