The Indian Institute of Management Lucknow conducted the Common Admission Test on November 26, 2017. Now that the CAT 2017 is over, applicants are eagerly waiting for the results which will be released in January 2018 followed by the selection process. The Indian Institutes of Management conducts the separate selection processes that comprise a Written Ability Test (WAT) and a Personal Interview (PI). though IIMs never disclose the cut off percentiles, it’s a common belief that only those above the 99 percentile in CAT 2017 are shortlisted for further rounds of selection.
The older Indian Institutes of Management are the most sought-after management institutes and have made their way to the top ranking systems. IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Lucknow, IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta (IIM A, B & C), IIM Indore, IIM Kozhikode, and IIM Shillong are among the old IIMs. It’s a common perception that only those students get a call from these IIMs who score above 99 percentile in CAT 2017. There are some new IIMs which made the number of IIMs to 20 in numbers. CAT 2017 aspirants believe that you don’t need 99 percentile in CAT for admission to new IIMs but still, you need high cut off.
Will 99 Percentile CAT 2017 Score Ensure A Call From IIM?
It’s an important question that how true is it that only students with 99 percentile CAT score get a call from IIMs. Do students who score less than 99 percentile in CAT 2017 not get a call from IIMs for the further selection process? And does scoring 99 percentile CAT score ensure a candidate to get a call from IIMs?
The answer to all the above questions is a plain NO. Vidit Garg is an example of this, who got selected for IIM Ahmedabad last year. Vidit who scored 89.67 percentile in CAT clearly refutes all the claims that only those scoring 99 percentile and above gets a call from IIMs. Apart from Vidit Garg’s story, we have another CAT aspirants story on Quora who scored 99 percentile in CAT but didn’t receive a call from IIM Ahmedabad. The scenario has also undergone changes with the establishment of new IIMs. However, the fact remains the same that scoring 99 percentile CAT 2017 score is not enough to get a call from IIMs, the reason being the varied criteria of shortlisting.
Why 99 percentile CAT 2017 score ensure a call from IIM?
Every IIM has different shortlisting criteria that may include CAT 2017 percentile, academic background, and performance, previous work experience, regional diversity etc. There is a weightage assigned to every criterion on the basis of which candidates are shortlisted for the further selection process. So even if a candidate scores over 99 percentile in 2017 CAT, he or she may not get a call from IIMs because of poor academic record or work experience.
