PM’s quota cap exposes KCR’s ‘hollowness’: Shabbir
Mohammed Ali Shabbir Hyderabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s assertion on keeping 50 per cent reservation cap has exposed the “hollowness” of the TRS government’s assurance of 12 per cent quota for Muslims, according to Leader of Opposition in the State Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir her on Wednesday. Shabbir said the Prime Minister at an election meeting on Tuesday ruled out relaxation of reservation cap.
In a press statement, Shabbir said the Prime Minister Modi had endorsed what Union Minister for Minorities Mukathar Abbas Naqvi had said during his recent visit to Hyderabad. Naqvi said the Supreme Court judgments should be respected and the state governments cannot increase quota on their own.
He wondered who the Chief Ministers of the two Telugu States can redeem their pledge to provide reservations to various communities. While the Telangana State Chief Minister promised 12 per cent quota for Muslims, AP Chief Minister announced 5 per cent reservations for Kapus.
He said that KCR and the TRS government had stolen limelight and gained publicity as saviour of Muslim community and Scheduled Tribes community by passing a legislation for giving 12 per cent reservation to Muslims and 10 per cent to STs. He said the congress party demanded that KCR at least wake up now and give clarity as to how the 12 per cent quota can be provided to Muslim and 10 per cent quota to STs. “As a Minster in YSR government I took the lead to see that the 4 per cent quota for Muslims was implemented and it did not face the legal hurdle” he said .
