Bhubaneswar: Director General of Police (DGP) RP Sharma Tuesday directed all police officers to arrest wanted criminals, and to launch a massive drive to execute pending NBWs, take steps for early closure of cases involving criminals and anti-socials, and book anti-socials and criminals under preventive sections.
Reviewing law and order situation through video conferencing, Sharma directed all SPs, DCPs, IGPs and DIGs to take timely action to prevent law and order problems.
The DGP ordered detention of hardened criminals and anti-social elements under NSA and to take stringent action against mafias engaged in organised crimes like the transport mafia, drug peddlers, illegal arms dealers and tender mafias.
The DGP also emphasised better inter-departmental coordination for effective crime control. He advised SPs to put in place an adequate response system to respond immediately to any situation. Commissioners, Range IGs and DIGs were advised to guide and monitor the functioning of SP/ DCPs and actively participate in the response.
He asked police officers to provide full assistance to revenue and other government authorities to curb illegal stone quarry, sand mining and timber smuggling mafias. A review will be held on the performance of SPs and DCPs on March 15 after 30 days, he said.
The Intelligence failure that led to the recent vandalism at IAS officer VK Pandian’s residence has left the police red-faced. In order to avoid such incidents, the DGP asked top cops to streamline Intelligence channels.
