It’s one of the oldest tales in music: a band spends their whole lives working on a debut album, which becomes an unexpected hit, leading to a year to two of constant touring and very little time to focus on their follow-up album. That was exactly the place Nathaniel Rateliff and his Night Sweats found themselves in when their eponymous 2015 debut album became an unexpected hit behind the song “S.O.B.” and the band’s rollickingly fun and powerful live show. Thankfully, the 39-year-old Rateliff, who fronted other bands before finding mainstream success, is old enough to not let the pressure of the music industry get to him. So when he and his band “finished” recording their sophomore effort, the highly anticipated Tearing At The Seams, last April he realized it wasn’t done. Nathaniel Rateliff: I’m good, woke up, did some calisthenics.
