City student to represent India at global youth event
Pune: City student Abhidha Niphade has been selected as the Global Youth Ambassador for ‘A World at School,’ an initiative by TheirWorld. She is a second year student of Indian Law School (ILS).
Abhidha is also the founder of ‘Being Lawgical.’
‘Being Lawgical’ works to spread awareness among the common people about the laws and helps them understand their rights. She has worked with Roshni, a self-help group that works for children living in slums. She has also worked with the Dalai Lama Foundation and visited religious places to learn philosophy.
The 21-year-old student is a graduate in English from Sir Parshurambhau College.
“I studied literature but soon realised that to empower women and others, I need to tell them how the government also favours them. And for that, I needed to study law,” said Abhidha. This made her join ILS.
TheirWorld is a UK-based organisation that works on taking education to each and every child in the world. It is currently prevalent in 80 countries with over 500 Global Youth Ambassadors.
As a Youth Ambassador of ‘A World at School’ Global, Abhidha can now mobilise other young people to stand up for education and make their voices heard in their communities. She can also organise local/national education advocacy-related events and campaigns.
From the organisation, she will receive the support needed to mobilise others for action like access to global campaigning tool kits and speak with like-minded young people from all over the globe.
