Trial runs on Shenkottai route in December
Thenmala: Trains would run on an experimental basis on the Punalur-Shenkottai route from December onwards and as part of that move, railway experts will examine the track next week. The trial run would be held between Shenkottai-Aryankavu New Railway station and Edaman and Punalur, where works have been completed. Packing works on the tracks have begun. Trial run between Aryankavu and Edaman may be held by January end or February first week. The railway track running almost 1 km through Aryankavu tunnel has been laid the other day. There are 6 tunnels in the Thenmala region and this is the first where track works have been completed in all tunnels in the Thenmala region.
The other tunnels lie between the Edaman-Aryankavu side where trial runs would be held in the 2nd phase. The Railway officials said that 80 percent works have been completed on the route. Works on the bioduct still remains. Works on Pathimoonnu Kannara Palam (13 Arch Bridge) situated at Kazhathuruthi in Kollam district is also finished. The new tunnel in Thenmala was opened the other side on Sunday. The distance between Punalur and Shenkottai is 49 kms and works on the 20 kms lying between Edaman and Aryankavu is yet to be completed.
