Five-fold increase in driving licence fee in Delhi

NEW DELHI: The Delhi government on Wednesday contradicted the union Transport Ministry's turn climbing the driving permit expense by up to five circumstances and said it ought to have been expanded steadily.

Delhi Transport Minister Satyendar Jain said he will converse with the focal government on the expense climb.

"The driving licence fee has been expanded by the focal government. The Delhi government has nothing to do with it. We don't need it to be expanded to such levels," Mr Jain told journalists in Delhi.

As indicated by a notice issued by the Union Transport Ministry in December, the focal government corrected the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, expanding the expense charged for issuing another driving permit crosswise over various classes of vehicles by up to five times.

As needs be, the Delhi government on Monday advised the new rates to all the Regional Transport Offices (RTOs).

Mr Jain said the focal government ought to have expanded the fee step by step as opposed to expanding it by up to five circumstances in one go.

"Regardless of the possibility that it must be expanded, it ought to have been done in a continuous manner.  A five-fold hike is not right," he said.
