If the Coimbatore District Cricket Association (CDCA) is to be believed then the city may well have a top class cricket stadium at the SNR Sons College grounds here next year. There were talks doing the rounds that Coimbatore will host a few of the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) matches in August this year. But it came as a shocker to many that the SNR grounds was not in full shape to host the show. That is because the CDCA had other big plans in its radar. It is targeting the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Test and the One Day Internationals (ODI) matches. Is the new cricketing facility to come up strong enough to host such international-level matches. " f course it will. The grounds will be good to stage every other cricketing show, be it national or international, " said D. Lakshminarayanaswamy, the CDCA head. " o begin with, we may start with the Ranji Trophy. Also, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will be back in action from next year. And, we want to host a match or two if provided with the chance, " he added. With the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) coming forward to extend its big support, the CDCA and its committed set of members are marching forward confidently and boldly to get the grounds ready by February next. " he laying of the grass top will begin next month. The TNCA has promised to help us with the same and from there it will take eight months for it to take full shape. TNCA will also support us with the lighting facility, " said Mr. Lakshminarayanaswamy. With the city facing a drought-like situation, how about watering the grass? " e are waiting for the monsoon to set but even otherwise it may not...
