Re-exams of leaked papers: Rajasthan University up in arms

JAIPUR: Police resorted to lathicharge in the Rajasthan University (RU) campus following student protests demanding the scrapping of re-examination in 10 commerce stream papers on Friday.Students damaged a car of a university employee during the lathicharge. RU had cancelled 10 exams after the special operations group (SOG) of the police found that question papers were leaked days before the exams.Furious over the leak and having to take the exams again, a group of students protested against the university to withdraw the decision to conduct the exams.The situation turned ugly when protesting students tried to enter the administrative block. Police present on the campus swung into action and tried to contain the situation initially by asking them to conduct the protest peacefully.But the students ignored their pleas and raised slogans against the university. The situation worsened when the students broke the glass of a car. However, the police prevented them from doing any more damage. The protesters, who were not under the banner of any organization, raised various demands, including more time to hold the rescheduled exams to scrapping the retests."When the police used a little force, they ran in all directions, damaging flower pots inside and outside the university. The traffic on JLN Marg had to be halted for some time. However, the police dispersed the crowd soon," said an eyewitness.Chaos prevailed on JLN Marg as the drama lasted for an hour.
