PSC issues fresh selection list of KAS preliminary
Left-Out Candidates Cry Foul
The J&K Public Service Commission has come up with a new list of candidates having qualified Kashmir Administrative Services (KAS)-2016 preliminary exams, following the controversy over wrong answer keys shown against 24 questions.
In the fresh list, the PSC has dropped 429 out of 6925 candidates who were declared qualified earlier, citing they could not make to the revised cutoff merit of 277.275 marks after applying revised answer keys.
“And an equal number of fresh candidates make it to the revised cutoff merit,” it reads. It may be recalled that earlier the candidates who were dropped from the list exposed PSC after it came to fore that 24 questions posed in KAS-2016 preliminary exam, conducted in March 2017, were shown wrong answers by PSC.
This came to fore after the dejected candidates filed an RTI on March 24 to seek the key, Xerox copy of OMR sheets and total score obtained. The preliminary result was declared on April 23.
“It was alleged in the media that during inspection of OMR sheets by some candidates at Srinagar the answer keys of general studies and political science were exhibited without authority and against rule,” notification reads. Amid hue and cry PSC kept preliminary result in abeyance and notification for KAS Main exams was withdrawn.
“Simultaneously the process for re-verification of all the 23 Answer Keys was started. The commission approached the vice chancellors and heads of reputed universities and institutes within and outside the state for relooking “answer keys” by the subject matter experts in order to find out the discrepancies,” the notification reads.
“While applying the revised answer keys, 429 candidates earlier declared qualified could not make to the revised cutoff merit and an equal number of fresh candidates make it to the revised cutoff merit,” the notification reads. Main examination will be held from 1st week of November.
The move has agitated the dropped candidates in the fresh list.
“We are preparing for Mains exams for last three months as PSC kept the result of preliminary exams in abeyance but now they have dropped us from the list,” a group of aggrieved candidates complained to Greater Kashmir.
The candidates blamed Commission for making “mockery” of high level competitive exams. “We will hit streets if PSC didn’t come clear on the issue. They must show us our OMR sheets through RTI,” they said. Chairman PSC, Latief U Zaman Deva, said the candidates were free to file RTI to see their OMR sheets.
