Obese Couple Finally Consummates 11-Year Relationship
A morbidly obese couple featured on the Lifetime reality series "My 600-lb Life" has shed nearly half of their combined weight of 1,256 pounds.
As a result, for the first time in their 11-year relationship, the Missouri couple has been able to have sexual relations, according to Daily Mail.
Lee Sutton, 42, and Rena Kiser, 39, both underwent gastric bypass surgery and spent 12 months recovering before discovering they were finally able to consummate their relationship.
Sutton shared his enthusiasm on the Lifetime series that has documented their struggle to get down to a more healthy and functional weight.
"We never had intercourse but we can now," he exclaimed.
Before the gastric surgery, Sutton weighed 714 pounds and Kiser weighed 542 pounds.
The couple, who met when Kiser and her older brother enrolled in a weight loss clinic together, were not permitted to continue their relationship while in treatment at the facility. So they left, and would spend years using food as a coping mechanism for life's problems, according to Daily Mail.
Eventually, Sutton's sister Cassie became their caregiver as the couple's weight skyrocketed to the point when they could not care for themselves.
Kiser admitted that it was humiliating that she and her husband's weight issues made it impossible for them to be self-sufficient.
"The only reason we are even able to survive right now is because Lee's sister comes over every day and helps us," she said in a preview for the show.
The show follows the couple as travel to Texas to meet with Dr. Younan Nowzaradan, a weight-loss surgeon who they were hoping would perform their gastric surgeries.
The doctor did not spare details, telling the couple that if they wanted to live more than a few years longer, they both needed to shed some serious weight.
The couple's victories and setbacks are chronicled over the months of their recovery. Sutton's frustration at losing only nine pounds in the weeks following the surgery boils over, and he starts to become physically abusive toward Kiser, according to Daily Mail.
Dr. Nowzaradan sends Sutton and Kiser to couples therapy, which helps them address the issues that are surfacing as they battle to get down to a less-hazardous weight.
At the end of the 12-month period, Sutton dropped 303 pounds and now weighs 411 pounds. Kiser lost 271 pounds and now tips the scales at 278.
Sutton said he intends to propose to Kiser once the couple have attained their weight-loss goal.
