Journalists attacked by Rohingyas, local youth
JAMMU, Mar 13: A group of journalists were attacked today by some local people and Rohingyas at Bathindi on the outskirts of Jammu.
According to reports, teams of two national TV channels were working on a story on Rohingyas in Bathindi area when two local youth in a car visited the spot and asked them to stop shooting and leave the venue. They said that due to repeated media coverage, Rohingyas who are living on rent basis on their land and rooms are leaving, due to which they are suffering financial loss.

When the journalists refused to leave the venue, they used abusive language, which triggered a war of words between them. The accused youth did not stop there. They became violent and attacked the journalists with lathis and rods. Soon a mob of about 20-30 Rohingyas also joined the accused local youth.
In the attack, Republic TV journalist, Tejinder Singh Sodhi got injured badly. India News’s, Ajay Jandyal and RTI Activist Rohit Chaudhary also got minor injuries. The video journalists accompanying them took them to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, from where they were discharge after providing first aid.
Later, a large number of journalists from different media houses reached police station Trikuta Nagar and submitted a written complaint.
“On the basis of the complaint of the scribes, a case FIR No 77/2018 under Section 341, 323, 382, 34 RPC has been registered at police station Trikuta Nagar and after initial investigations, two accused namely Mohd Ashraf and Sher Mohammad (both residents of Kiryani Talab) have been arrested while further investigation in the case is going on”, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Jammu, Dr SD Singh said.
