Convocation is prime celebration in one’s life: Governor
THE 14th convocation ceremony of Jawaharlal Nehru Agriculture University (JNAU) was a gala ceremony with gracious presence of Governor of Madhya Pradesh and Chancellor of JNAU Anandiben Patel on Thursday. The ceremony was organised in style with complete Indian style dressing for the first time. Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR), Deputy Director General, Dr Narendra Singh Rathod gave convocation message in gracious presence of Padma Bhushan Dr R S Paroda, former Director General of ICAR, New Delhi, was special guest. In the ceremony, Dr Paroda was honoured with Doctor of Science degree.
Addressing the ceremony, Governor Anandiben Patel said, “Education and its recognition is our culture. The convocation ceremony is a place that declares complete eligibility of students towards their responsibility. Hence, convocation is amongst prime celebrations in life of students, professors, teachers and mentors. She further emphasised on developing youths’ interest towards farming. In order to develop entreprenurship, self-employment in farming sector as per wish of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make farming a profitable enterprise the Government has introduced various start-ups and entrepreneurship development programmes so that agriculture universities could introduce employers not job seekers. Start-ups and agri-based enterprise development in villages will help in giving adequate price to farmers at their hometown. She said JNAU has been working since last 54 years in the field of agriculture education, research and extension. She also pointed out achievements of JNAU and with hard toil of farmers, advance farming research of JNAU and policies of Government the State has won Krishi Karman Award for successive fifth year. Students qualified in 2013-14 batch in under graduate degree programme, 2015-16 session post-graduate degree programme and 2014-15 Doctorate PhD a total of 693 students got degrees, cash prize and gold medals. Total 23 students received PhD at the hands of Governor of Madhya Pradesh Anandiben Patel, while 230 students were presented post-graduate degrees and 440 students received graduate degrees declared in group.
Chancellor and Governor Anandiben Patel further asked students to keep values in their working while propagating farming technology. So that they could perform their social responsibility. She hoped that students would fulfill their responsibility with sincerity and dedication so that millions of farmers could satisfy their desires of growing quality food following right consultation and system suggested by them. In the convocation address, Deputy Director General (Agriculture Education) Dr Narendra Singh Rathod said that with changing phase of technology change in agriculture education is being done by ICAR in every five years. From 2018-19 ICAR has been working on bringing changes in curriculum of post graduate and doctorate programmes.
Changes are focused to bring programme of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to double farmers’ income by 2022. He added that as per formulas given by the Prime Minister to ICAR to transform agriculture education system into a vibrant learning system where agriculture graduates would have dreams to become job providers and not seekers. He also highlighted achievements of JNAU while suggested that from this year onwards the new grading system of universities to maintain quality of education. Earlier, VC Professor Bisen presented report on JNAU, apprising about achievements of the University in form of awards in research, teaching and extension at national and international level. Expressing his vision to take the University from Excellent to Best seek blessings and support from the Chancellor of JNAU. The programme commenced as per tradition with convocation parade in full decorum in Indian dressing on band tunes of Special Armed Force 6th Battalion Band. Followed by welcome of guests with shawl, sriphal and mementoes and lighting of lamp in front of Goddess Saraswati.
Vice-Chancellor of Nanaji Deshmukh Veterinary Science University Professor Prayagdutt Joyal, Rani Durgawati University, Vice-Chancellor Dr Kapil Deo Mishra, MPMSU Vice-Chancellor, Dr R S Sharma, JNAU Board of Management Member, Member of Academic Council and Executive Council, Directors of JNAU, Dean of all the Agriculture and Agriculture Engineering, Head of Departments graced the occasion. Retired professors, Head of the Departments of different colleges, invited progressive farmers, students were present in large numbers. Proceedings were convened by Registrar A K Ingle, Dean Faculty of Agriculture Dr P K Mishra, Dean College of Agricultural Engineering Dr R K Nema. Dr Amit Sharma convened the programme.
