IPL 2018: Sportzwiki’s Man of the Match – Mujeeb Ur Rahman
The Mohali crowd got to witness the vintage MS Dhoni as well as the impressive Mujeeb Ur Rahman.
Chennai Super Kings almost sealed their third consecutive close game but Mohit Sharma’s impressive last over denied them a win.
Ravichandran Ashwin revealed Chris Gayle’s inclusion in the toss.
Gayle teed-off in style, scoring 63 runs off 33 balls. The opener hit four sixes and seven fours to entertain the crowd. KL Rahul too got off to a good start. The right-hand batsman smacked seven boundaries and was dismissed by Harbhajan Singh for 37 off 22 balls.
Mayank Agarwal contributed with a solid 30 off 19 balls while Karun Nair had the license to offer the finishing blow. Nair hit a six and a couple of boundaries to make it 29 runs off 17 deliveries. Punjab ended their innings on 197/7.
For Chennai, Imran Tahir was the pick of the bowlers. The leggie scalped the wickets of Agarwal and Aaron Finch.
His tally at the end read – 2/34. Chasing 198, both the openers went back to the dressing room quite early. Ambati Rayudu played a good hand of 49 before he fell short of his crease.
Punjab’s skipper Ashwin hit the bulls-eye to get rid of him and took a catch and got Sam Billing trapped in front to lead from the front.
17-year old Afghani spinner Mujeeb has been pretty consistent in this year’s IPL. The youngster’s last three matches stats read- 2/28,1/29 and 0/18.
Though he got no success in picking a wicket, the cunning tweaker was tough to read. Dhoni, himself went on to say he struggled a bit against the promising spinner.
Gayle announces his return
Kings XI bought Gayle, who went unsold in the first two rounds in the IPL auction. He didn’t feature for his side in the initial games but made a mark for himself tonight.
“I got a text this morning saying I’m playing. But most importantly, we won, which makes me pretty happy. Once you’ve got momentum, you can keep the bowler under pressure. It was a close game, but we ended up winning, which feels pretty good. I feel 25.” Gayle said.
