Bhopal: Women peers’ brilliant show at CWG boosts morale of city players
Bhopal: Brilliant performance of Indian female players in the Commonwealth Games (CWG)-2018 indeed has inspired women sportspersons in the city irrespective to their genre of games. The women players were found to be particularly enthusiastic about the performance of their fair sex peers.
Talking to Free Press, they gushed with confidence: “The massive show of women power in CWG has set the stage for Indian team to perform better in the upcoming Rio Olympics and Asian Games.” Boxing coach at Tatya Tope Stadium in Bhopal, Roshan Lal admitted that “The brilliant performance by women players in CWG-2018 has increased the confidence of players in the city.”
Notably, the 11-day CWG-2018 concluded on Sunday, with India emerging as the third most successful country at the games. For statistics, India finished with 26 gold, 20 silver and 20 bronze medals at the prestigious sports event held in Gold Coast, Australia.
International shooter Aprajita Singh said “The entire Indian team, especially females did very well at the games. Definitely, such performance motivated us a lot. Though I had been busy with my sports trial in Delhi I did not miss to watch the match of my favourite shooter Apurvi Chandela. She played very well in both qualifying and final rounds. Jeetu Rai’s performance too was very good.”
“The charm towards shooting has increased post Olympics feat by Abhinav Bindra. The condition of shooting in MP is now very good, with a world class shooting academy being setup here. Now, we can say that we can prepare Olympic-level players here,” Singh said. Echoing others, national badminton player Aditi Verma said “No doubt the female players have done a commendable job in the CWG. It inspired us a lot.”
“I didn’t miss a single match of my favourite player Saina Nehwal. I was very confident from the beginning that she would win. PV Sindhu and Vinesh Phogat too was superb,” Aditi said, adding that “We are getting good facility in Badminton in the state but it can be made better.”
Be it boxing, shooting, badminton, wrestling or table tennis, performance of all the Indian players at CWG are satisfactory. We in fact have performed well in squash as well. If we talk about boxing, Mary Kom participated in CWG for the first time and bagged gold. Notably, we won three gold, three silver and one bronze medals for the first time in boxing and definitely, it will help boost the morale of other players, especially women.

Our female players have done very good job in the CWG. Now, we have two good players like Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu in Badminton, and no one can stop India from being number 1 in sports .

It was really a great performance. Winning medals in table tennis is not an easy task. In shooting, Sanjeev Rajpoot did great job. He broke the earlier record and bagged gold. All together, a great hope and boost for the upcoming Rio Olympics and Asian Games.
