Hyundai’s first dedicated hybrid car, Ioniq was first showcased at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. Available with the option of three powertrains-pure electric, plug-in hybrid and standard hybrid, Hyundai Ioniq is the world’s first car to offers all three mechanical technologies in one car.

The hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions make use of the new Kappa 1.6GDI, four-cylinder engine which has been designed specifically for the hybrid application. In terms of output, it emanates 105bhp against 147Nm torque and comes linked to a six-speed double clutch transmission. As per Hyundai’s claims, Ioniq will offer a dynamic driving experience.

The electric motor, on the other hand puts out 43.5bhp along with 170Nm of torque and is powered by lithium-ion battery. The electric motor and the conventional engine offer a collective power of 141bhp and 265Nm of torque. In terms of performance, the Ioniq is claimed to offer top speed of 185km/h.

While Hyundai had showcased the hybrid sedan at the 2018 Auto Expo, its India launch seems unlikely due to high cess on hybrids under the GST regime. Hyundai is however, planning to bring Kona EV to India and the facelifted Creta launch is just around the corner. Besides, Hyundai will also re-launch its stellar hatchback, Santro in India sometime in 2018.
