Kerala MLA calls nun 'a prostitute'
In PIc: P C George
Kochi: A Kerala MLA courted controversy when he made appalling comments against the nun who was allegedly raped for two years by a bishop in Kottayam, calling her a prostitute. At a press conference organized in Kottayam, PC George said, "No one has doubt that the nun is a prostitute. 12 times she enjoyed it and the 13th time it is rape? Why didn't she complain the first time?"
In the matter, former state Congress chief VM Sudheeran said on Facebook, “I condemn PC George’s bid to paint the nun who was abused and those who have come out in support of her in a bad light.”
In a statement based on initial investigation and available evidence, the police, in July this year found that the Bishop allegedly committed unnatural offence and raped the nun against her will for multiple times between 2014 and 2016. In the statement, it was alleged that the bishop confined the nun to a guest room in St Francis Mission Home in Kuravilangad in Kottayam district of Kerala.
On his defence, the bishop has also given a complaint against the nun, a mother superior of a convent, alleging that she was blackmailing him and threatened to frame him in a sexual harassment case.
The complaint was made by nun to the church last year and filed a police complaint after no action was taken by the church against the accused bishop. After filing the complaint, she was removed from her official position and complaints of financial irregularities were framed against her, said the nun.
The case surfaced at a time when a believer of the Orthodox Church filed a complaint against five priests alleging them of sexually exploiting his wife for many years. The police had registered a case after the intervention of the National Women Commission.
