Earthquake shakes Haryana, Jammu And Kashmir, no reports of casualties

Magnitude 5.5 Earthquake in Jammu and Kashmir, tremors felt in Haryana & Bihar: An earthquake measuring 4.6 on Richter scale hit Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday morning followed by another of magnitude 3.1 in Haryana’s Jhajjar. No damage due to the earthquakes in Jammu and Kashmir in Jhajjar has been reported so far. This was the fourth medium intensity earthquake in India in less than a week. Earlier on Sunday, earthquake tremors were felt in some parts of Delhi-NCR.

Earthquake rattles Assam, tremors felt across West Bengal, Bihar

The first earthquake hit Jammu and Kashmir at 5:15 am. The quake measured 4.6 on the Richter scale. According to India Meteorological Department, the quake had a latitude of 35.6° N, longitude of 76.3 E and a depth of 174 kilometers.

Earlier in the day, an earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale occurred in Jammu and Kashmir, a disaster management department official said. No damage to life or property was reported.

The moderate intensity quake was felt at 5.15 am and the epicentre was located 199 km north of Kargil town in the Ladakh region, he said.

A major quake measuring 7.6 had killed over 40,000 people on both sides of the Line of Control on October 8, 2005.
