List of records Rishabh Pant created with his maiden Test century against England

Rishabh Pant announced himself at the International stage with his first major knock in the Indian jersey against England. On the final day of the Test series, Pant lived up to his reputation of clearing the fence with ease when he paired up with KL Rahul. The pair put on 204 for the 6th wicket to keep India’s chances of salvaging a draw and something better alive. Pant scored his maiden ton for India with a 146-ball 114 that included 15 fours and four maximums.

1 – Rishabh Pant became the first Indian wicketkeeper to score a Test century in the 4th innings of a Test. The previous highest score for an Indian keeper in the 4th innings of a Test was 76* by MS Dhoni in 2007 at the Lord’s.

1 – He became the first Indian keeper to score a Test century in England. As many as three keepers scored a Test 100 for India outside Asia before Pant but all those three were in the Caribbean.

He is also the first left-handed keeper to score a century for India in International cricket as the only other left-handed keeper of India, Parthiv Patel didn’t score one in 53 Internationals thus far.

4 – Pant is only the 4th Indian to complete his maiden century in Test cricket by hitting a six. The other three players before him were Kapil Dev, Irfan Pathan and Harbhajan Singh.

20y 338d – The Delhi lad’s age coming into this Test match. He is the 2nd youngest Indian wicketkeeper to score a Test century. Ajay Ratra was 20 years and 148 days old when he made an unbeaten 115 against West Indies in St John’s in 2002.

114 – His 114-run knock is the 3rd highest score by a wicketkeeper in the fourth innings of a Test. Adam Gilchrist scored an unbeaten 149 against Pakistan in 1999 Hobart Test while Moin Khan scored 117* against Sri Lanka in 1995.

117 – Pant’s 117-ball century is the 2nd fastest Test century by an Indian in the 4th innings of a Test match. Sourav Ganguly’s 106-ball effort in the 1999 Hamilton Test match against New Zealand is the fastest.

117 – The century that he accomplished in 117 deliveries is the 2nd fastest century in Test cricket by an Indian in England. During the 1990 tour of England, the then Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin took 87 balls for his century at Lord’s.
