Hyderabad Masters Badminton League to commence from September 21
A league of players above the age of 35 years, Hyderabad Masters Badminton League (HMBL) is all set to begin from September 21. The player auction for the league was held at the Country Club in Hyderabad and the owners of eight participating teams tried their level best to buy quality shuttlers.
HMBL will see eight teams battling out against each other with the league being planned to be played in both league and knockout stages. The matches will be played only in the doubles format at the Kotla Vijay Bhaskar Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad.
After the group stage, where the teams will face each other, top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals and then the final will be played on September 23. The champion team will be awarded Rs 6 lakh and the runners-up will get Rs 3 lakh. The losing semifinalists will also get an award of 1 lakh each.
80 female and around 230 male shuttlers were under the hammer during the auction which was conducted by the former international player and current treasurer of HMBL Nirmala Kotnis.
Group A comprises BBA Titans, Hyderabad Nawabs, Mumbai Masters, and Himalayan Rangers while Flying Gravity, Smash Squad, Hyderabad Smashers and Enthu Shuttlers are in the other group of the league.
