Health minister Pratap Jena flags off 42 ambulances

Bhubaneswar: Health & Family Welfare Minister Pratap Jena flagged off 42 108 ambulances under the Emergency Medical Ambulance Service at the OSRTC Campus near AG Square here on Wednesday. With this, the number of ambulances notched up to 512.

Reportedly, the ambulances are part of the 92 ambulances that the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik dedicated to the people of the state. The state government has made a budget provision of Rs 90 crore for the additional ambulances.

Among others, health department commissioner-cum-secretary Pramod Kumar Meherda, National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) Director Shalini Pandit, and other departmental officers and officials of 108 Ambulance Service provider were present during the flagging-off ceremony.

Notably, the 108 Emergency Medical Ambulance Service was launched March 5, 2013 and presently has a fleet of 470 vehicles including 414 Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulances and 56 Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulances.

In addition to the 108 Ambulance Service, the state also acquires a fleet of 500 ambulances under 102 Ambulance Service for transportation of pregnant mothers and sick infants.

Earlier on December 23, 2017, the CM had flagged off 24 ambulances while on July 12 he inducted 26 more.
