Lunchtime at M10 Victoria Pier
Well, M-10 did it again! The popular Vineyard Town restaurant opened a second outpost at the new downtown hotspot Victoria Pier. M-10 number two is essentially a takeaway location but the food is identical to its sister restaurant. Here, too, you can expect hot and delicious dishes, good portions and friendly service.
Thursday Food visited during lunchtime on Tuesday, and talk about steady business! For the duration of our visit (and it wasn't a short one), there was a constant stream of customers coming through the double-glass doors to place orders or collect them. The clientele, like the menu, was varied. Government workers, lecturers, newspaper vendors, bankers, janitors and entrepreneurs all made small talk while waiting in line.
M-10 Victoria Pier is managed by Heather Quarrie, partner of Marvin Tenn who, along with his mother Claudette, owns M-10. Her warmth, positive energy and helpfulness should be on the menu — we just want to bottle it up and take it home! Her staff, too, is affable and knowledgeable.
There are at least six dishes on offer each day during lunch. On Tuesdays are cow foot and beans, curried chicken, curried goat, fried chicken, sweet and sour pork, stew beef, sweet and sour fish fillet and red peas soup with beef. The fried chicken had to be replenished within the first hour of lunch service. Yes, it's that good. The sweet and sour pork is like you've never had. Forget that Crayola-red (or, in some cases traffic cone-orange) stuff that we are accustomed to eating on Friday nights. M-10's sweet and sour pork sees bone-in pork simmered in a tangy, slightly sweet ginger-laced sauce that makes you want to lick the box. Or, being mindful of what people may think of you, at least use a spoon to scoop every drop. The cow foot and beans and stew beef were popular options and one customer drove quite a distance to grab lunch. Such is the power of M-10.
M-10 Victoria Pier opens at 7:00 am and serves breakfast until 11:00 am. Each morning there are five options — porridge, a protein mixed with callaloo, cabbage or ackee, stew or curried chicken, liver or kidney and, if you're lucky, saltfish or mackerel run down. Need a napkin?
So whenever you hear (or utter), “I want something really nice for lunch today”, head on down to Victoria Pier for a lunch from M-10. It will be one of the best lunchtime experiences that you'll have all week.
M-10 is open Mondays through Fridays between 7:00 am and 4:00 pm and accepts all major credit and debit cards. Breakfast is served until 11:00 am and lunch service begins at 11:30 am.
