New Ro-Ro facility for Majuli flagged off

Guwahati, Oct 11 (UNI) A new Roll on-Roll off (Ro-Ro) facility was flagged off for Majuli island on Brahmaputra river in eastern Assam today, which will reduce travel distance and time to reach the island substantially.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, who is also the Majuli MLA, flagged off this Ro-Ro facility of Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI), in collaboration with the Government of Assam.

This Ro-Ro facility will cut down the circuitous road route of 423 kms that trucks take from Neamati in Jorhat district to Majuli island via Tezpur Road Bridge, by limiting the distance to only 12.
7 km with the use of river route.

IWAI has procured a new vessel MV Bhupen Hazarika at a cost of Rs 9.
