Messi's 'life and passion for football' to be portrayed in Cirque du Soleil show
Barcelona and Argentina football star Lionel Messi will be the focus of a Cirque du Soleil show in 2019. This was confirmed by both Messi and the Canadian entertainment group.
Cirque du Soleil, a theatrical production company of performance artists, will base the new show on the story of Messi and his passion for football. The dates and venues for the show are yet to be confirmed.
Messi posted a picture of him on social media wearing a T-shirt that read 'Cirque du Soleil' and captioned it with the announcement.
“I am honoured to announce my partnership with Cirque du Soleil for the creation of a brand-new show in 2019 based on my life and the passion for football,” the caption read.
Messi had also posted a video of him wearing the same T-shirt and juggling a red clown nose.
Cirque du Soleil took to Twitter to inform the news to its followers.
“We are thrilled to announce our partnership with football legend #LeoMessi for the creation of a brand-new show to be launched in 2019, based on his life, his passion, and his sport!” Cirque du Soleil's official Twitter handle posted.
“The show will draw its inspiration from the incredible talent and accomplishments of the football legend, who embodies the unique spirit and values of his sport,” Cirque du Soleil stated on its website.
This is the first time that Cirque du Soleil will have a sportsperson as the subject of their show. The troupe has previously done shows on musicians such as the Beatles and Michael Jackson.
