iPhone XR demand stronger than iPhone 8: Kuo
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo latest report states that iPhone XR replacement demand in China will be higher than last year’s iPhone 8 demand. The first week of October is a national holiday in China and most domestic phone manufacturers saw sales fall year-over-year during the Golden Week.
Kuo blames insufficient innovation for a decline in the number of users upgrading to the latest iPhone devices. He believes that most consumers are still upgrading to older iPhone models or waiting for the upcoming iPhone XR launch on October 26. The iPhone XR is expected to see a higher demand than the other 2018 iPhones, due to its affordable price.
Kuo states that in China, only smartphone maker Huawei saw an increase in shipments, while sales from rivals Vivo, Oppo, and Xiaomi have been disappointing. Overall, shipments from major Chinese smartphone vendors fell 10%. Kuo says that iPhone XR sales will beat iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus sales over its lifetime.
Apple iPhone XR pre-orders begin on October 19, and shipping will begin on October 26. The iPhone XR has a modern screen design, cheaper pricing than iPhone 8 Plus, dual-SIM support and will be available in a number of colour options. According to reports, Apple’s iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max sales as ‘disappointing’ in China. Apple will report its financial results on November 1st, which will reveal one week of iPhone XS sales. Apple iPhone XR sales will be reported sometime in January when Apple delivers its first-quarter results.
