Raitha Sangha to protest against change in power grid line
Mysuru, December 6:- “Instead of setting up 400 KV electric line through Elavala hobli, Elachanahalli, Chatradakoppalu, Megalapura and K Natanahalli, the department has set up the line through another route due to pressure from powerful people. Farmers will lay siege to the office of the regional commissioner,” said taluk president of Raitha Sangha and Hasiru Sene P Marankaiah at a press meet at Mysuru press club on Thursday.
“If the electric line was set across the way it was planned earlier, it would have been of no problem for the farmers. But the route has been altered because of the pressure from the powerful people. In an attempt to take revenge against those who have complained, the line is set across a coconut farm. I had brought it to the notice of tahsildar. This altered route will result in 1,500 – 2,000 coconut trees being chopped down. But the department has prepared a report sitting in the office, saying only 150 trees will be uprooted,” he added.
“This route is set up forcefully by using police force. The power grid is powerful that it would be tough for the farmers to move around freely. Agricultural activities can never be done. We storming the Chescom office to go according to the original plan,” he added.
