F1 2019: Racing Point Car Launch Date Confirmed

Sportskeeda 2019-01-11 23:27:08
What will the first Racing Point F1 car look like?

Racing Point (Formerly known as Force India, and later Racing Point Force India) have announced via their social media channels when their 2019 Formula 1 challenger will be revealed. 13th February 2019 is the day to mark on your calendar, with Lance Stroll and Sergio Perez removing the veil on the vehicle which they will be piloting in 2019's 21 Grands Prix.

The image that was posted when this announcement was made is nothing to get excited about in itself as it's clearly just a stock image of a Formula 1 car. They wouldn't want to give their competition valuable information like that?

What the car will be called, though, will be interesting in itself. For the entirety of Force India's time in F1, their cars were named "VJM" followed by a number depending on what iteration it was. VJM is in reference to Force India's founder, Vijay Mallya, but the Indian businessman is no longer involved with the team now and has had his name firmly tarnished now, thanks to his many legal disputes. It's fair to say that Racing Point won't be giving Mallya free promotion.

What is certain is that the Racing Point challenger will have a Mercedes power unit in the back of it (as was the case last year) but the team colours are also unknown. Pink and white was the paint scheme last year (thanks to heavy BWT sponsorship) and that water company is still listed as a partner on the team's website, so the pink panthers could remain on the grid in 2019.

However, what's most important is that Racing Point remains on the grid this year, after Force India went into administration it looked like we might've had to watch 18-car races for the majority of the season.

F1 car reveal calendar (so far):

Renault: February 12th

Racing Point: February 13th

McLaren: February 14th

Ferrari: February 15th
