IPL 2019: RCB still looking to lift their maiden IPL silverware

Meri News 2019-03-14 05:30:00

The Royal Challengers Bangalore have always had superstars in their ranks. However, the team's star power hasn't got them a single tournament win in the Indian Premier League so far. RCB start IPL 2019 on a positive note, eager to get their hands on the IPL silverware this year.

Batting-heavy RCB added more power-hitters in their batting line up in the IPL auction in December last year while what they required was a few good bowlers who could bowl well in the death overs.  In fact, lack of bowlers capable of defending even small totals by bowling miserly in the death overs was what hurt RCB the most in the last IPL season.

Consistency has been a major problem with RCB. On their day they can set the 22-yard strip ablaze with powerful hitting but can be ordinary in the next. RCB has made it to the final three times in IPL history only to lose the plot in the final game.

RCB undoubtedly have the best opening pair in Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers, who are crowd pullers as well. However, unfortunately, the two have not got the kind of support from their team that is required for lifting the IPL trophy. Would they be able to inspire the team to their maiden IPL win this time?

RCB's new coach Garry Kirsten does inspire confidence. He had joined them last year after RCB parted ways with Daniel Vettori. He brings along a vast experience of having coached international teams including the Indian national men's cricket team which had lifted the ICC World Cup in 2011.

RCB had a forgettable season in IPL 2018 as they finished sixth. The team had an ordinary start in IPL 2018 ? only three wins from their first 10 games. However, RCB managed to make it to the playoffs with three straight wins before losing their last match of IPL 2018 to Rajasthan Royals.

RCB has some welcome additions for IPL 2019 including Marcus Stoinis; West Indies U-19 captain, Shimron Hetmyer; and not to forget, Shivam Dube, another power hitter for whom RCB paid a whopping Rs 5 crore. Some other players that have joined RCB this IPL season are Akshdeep Nat, Gurkeerat Singh, Devdutt Padikkal, Milind Kumar, Henrich Klassen and Himmat Singh. Let's all wish RCB luck for IPL 2019.
