Is this how it'll look like?
Ford is in quite a busy mode right now regarding its Indian operations. The automaker recently entered into a partnership with Mahindra for the development of vehicles as well as technology exchange. Further, according to a report, the carmaker is planning to invest a huge sum of Rs. 7,000 crores or $ 1 Billion in the Indian market for the development of new products among other things in the next 5 to 7 years. The report further suggests that Ford is developing two new SUVs for our market, one of which will act as the Ecosport replacement while the other will be positioned higher as a rival to the Hyundai Creta. The latter has been codenamed as the BX745 and the render below shows how it would look like.
As apparent from this render from Motor1 the SUV sports quite a funky design that is more in line with a crossover than an SUV. Instead of flat panels and straight lines, the SUV in this render has a more rounded design all over. This design approach for an SUV was earlier adopted by Tata for the Nexon and the car has become one of the most successful vehicles in its category. The render is based on the design hints perceived during an event held in Amsterdam where Ford brought the all-new Puma (International name) on stage but dimmed the lights to conceal the SUV’s design.
Further, the design of this SUV, as on this render, seems to be inspired quite a bit from the latest generation Euro-spec Fiesta. It gets stylish headlamps up front along with Ford’s signature hexagonal grille. The roofline is more sloping than upright and falls back at a rake angle. It rides on rather gorgeous looking multi spoke machined alloys that have a slightly inwards flowing design. The ground clearance of this SUV seems to be adequate and it could be easily driven on our roads without much fuss. Not much is known about the interiors of the actual car. However, it could carry a Fiesta-inspired design theme but that’s not for sure right now.
It will measure well over 4 meters in length and rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks and Renault Duster compact SUVs. As of now, it has not been confirmed whether it will be brought here as a full ford product or be shared with Mahindra too. If the latter is the case, then expect the Indian version of the SUV to sport a lot of changes. This probably will include shared powertrains and even platforms. The launch of this SUV is expected to happen after 2020 so there is still quite some time before we see it in flesh. The upcoming Kia Tusker SUV will also be a formidable rival it will have to battle.
