Dairy and juice factory shut down in Al Ain
Abu Dhabi: A dairy and juice factory in Al Ain was shut down by the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADFSA) on Tuesday for repeated food safety violations.
Insects were found in production areas and unlabelled products were found in refrigerated storage at the International Dairy and Juices Products factory in Al Ain Industrial Estate. There were also products with false production dates.
The authority issued an administrative decision to close the factory as it violated Law No2 of 2008 regarding food in the emirate of Abu Dhabi. The factory posed a threat to public health, ADFSA said.
ADFSA spokesperson Thamer Rashed Al Qasimi said the decision to close the factory came after the management failed to take corrective action. In addition to repeated violations, he said the factory’s hygiene was poor. “The administrative closure order will continue as long as the violations persist,” said Al Qasimi. “The facility will only be allowed to resume work after improving its condition,” he added.
The closure followed three final warnings issued to the factory in March and June 2018, for repeated violations.
Al Qasimi stressed that all food facilities are subject to regular inspections to ensure their compliance with food safety requirements.
ADFCA urged the public to report any violations related to food safety using toll-free number 800555.
