Rajitha off to Geneva for WHA sessions
Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne left for Geneva, Switzerland, to attend the 72nd World Health Assembly (WHA).
The 72nd World Health Assembly will take place in Geneva from May 20 to 28. Before the commencement of the Assembly, Minister Senaratne will attend the Commonwealth Leadersâ discussion.
The Minister, who is also a member of its Executive Board, will address the Assembly on May 21.
Representatives from 194 member countries will attend the 72nd World Health Assembly.
The World Health Assembly is the decision-making body of WHO. It is attended by delegates from all WHO member states and focuses on a specific health agenda prepared by the Executive Board.
The main functions of the World Health Assembly are to determine the policies of the organisation, appoint the Director-General, supervise financial policies, and review and approve the proposed programme budget.
The World Health Assembly is held annually in Geneva.
