Klymaxx wins Canada Rumble
On its third outing, Klymaxx sound system won the Canada Rumble clash which took place Saturday at Phoenix Concert Theatre in Toronto. They topped five rivals to claim that crown.
“It has been a long road coming. This is our third time entering Canada Rumble and this win means a lot to us, because we have been doing this over 24 years,” Klymaxx member Kevin “Squidly Man” Wheatle said in an interview with the Jamaica Observer.
The other sound systems in Canada Rumble were Sniper, King Aggression, Cum Traxx, Super Fresh and Majestic Vybez.
Wheatle attributes Klymaxx's win to experience.
“We started out as a juggling soun' and not as a clash soun'. In 2012, we entered Fully Loaded in Canada. We also participated in other clashes like Rising Star and No Way Out. We won Fully Loaded in 2015 and we have been doing many clashes since then,” he said, adding that: “We enjoy clashing and it's something that we are passionate about. We like to entertain people and I believe the experience gave us the edge over the competitors.”
Klymaxx formed in 1992 with Wheatle, who is originally from Molynes Road in Kingston, starting his tenure in 1994. He took over the helm soon after. His colleagues are Brian “Bugzy Killa” Wheatle, Gary “Specialist” Knight, Sean “Fadda Digital” Bennett and Gary Taylor.
They are based in Ajax, a town in southern Ontario.
“To win Canada Rumble is one of the greatest feelings. We have always dreamt of going to World Clash and now this win solidifies the opportunity to go up against the sounds that are considered to be the best in the world. We've put in the work, and we continue to be consistent,” said Wheatle.
Irish and Chin, a New York events team, are promoters of Canada Rumble. The World Clash is tentatively scheduled for November in Canada.
