While the whole nation should be ready to celebrate city's first of it's kind  underwater metro route, almost 600 people are rendered homeless after they were evacuated for the metro works .

Sources from the administration said that around 52 buildings around Kolkata's Bowbazaar area were run down as works hit an aquifer (underwater run-ins) which led to flood in the tunnels.

The evacuees have been stayed in nearby hotels paid for by the Kolkata Metro Corporation.

The affected areas, Durga Pituri and Shakrapara lanes, have been cordoned off, with entire houses having crumbled.
