Do you have head lice? Try THESE home remedies to get rid of them

Head lice can be embarrassing and irritating. No one wants to have an itchy and burning scalp all the time and home remedies are the best way of getting rid of head lice for good.

Head lice are much more common than we’d like to accept. This parasite infects your head and feeds off your blood and reproduces in your hair. Most people associate head lice with unhygienic conditions or habits and are disgusted by it. As disgusting as it may be, head lice have nothing to do with hygiene. Lice spread by direct contact or by sharing bedding and pillows and soft toys and hats with someone who may be infected. You could be traveling with someone who has head lice and just a little bit of head contact is all it takes for a louse to jump into your hair and start reproducing. Lice can make your head itchy and increase hair fall. It’s very annoying to have hair and embarrassing as well. Going to a barber or hairstylist can be embarrassing if you have lice because they come in close contact with your hair and they can probably spot one odd louse or nits. Treating head lice is very important and before you get started on chemical remedies and buy oils and products to remove lice, it would be nice to try some home remedies. You’ll need a lice comb and a shower cap.

1. Neem

Neem has antiseptic and antibacterial properties. Make a paste of neem and apply it on your head and cover it up with a shower cap. Leave it in overnight and rinse with shampoo in the morning. Use a nit comb after that to check for any remaining lice. You can also use neem oil but remember to do this treatment twice a week till your head is completely clear of lice.

2. Essential oil

Mix a few drops of essential oils like tea tree oil or lavender oil or eucalyptus oil in some olive oil. The scent of the oil will suffocate the lice and clear your head. Apply this oil on your head and wear a shower cap and sleep. Let it remain overnight and in the morning use lice comb to clear your head and wash your hair with a mild shampoo.

3. Mayonnaise

Take a lot of mayonnaise and rub it all over your hair and scalp. Now wear a shower cap and leave it be overnight. Wash your hair with a mild shampoo the next morning.

4. Vinegar

Dilute some vinegar with water. Apply this mixture thoroughly on your scalp and cover your hair. Now wrap your head in a towel and let it stay for 40 to 50 minutes. Use a nit comb to remove lice and nits. Kill them instantly or put them in a bowl of water. After this wash your hair and repeat this whenever required.

5. Camphor

Camphor has a strong scent and it has antibacterial properties. Take some coconut oil in a bowl and add some properly crushed camphor in it. Mix it well and make a smooth paste. Now apply this properly all over your hair and scalp. Wear a shower cap and let the lice and nits suffocate overnight. Rinse it off with shampoo in the morning.
