'All in good fun': Flames fans back campaign to put Tkachuk on Edmonton billboards
Edmonton Oilers fans left sour by the team’s recent matchup with the Calgary Flames will soon face roadside reminders of the loss when billboards featuring Matthew Tkachuk pop up in Alberta’s capital city. One Flames fan started a campaign to plaster Tkachuk’s face on billboards in Edmonton after Oilers forward Zack Kassian pummelled Tkachuk, in response to the pesky Flames forward laying a series of hard hits on the much bigger opponent in Saturday’s Battle of Alberta. Mohamed Elsaghir got the idea for billboards after seeing the wrath directed at Tkachuk from Oilers players and fans alike. But he never expected to hit — and then far exceed — the $2,500 goal he set for the GoFundMe campaign. Kassian told media Wednesday that fans can expect fireworks in the rematch game and refused to apologize for going after Tkachuk.
