Course on ‘Conservation Agriculture’ concludes at SKUAST

JAMMU, Feb 13: Ten- day ICAR sponsored training course on “Conservation Agriculture Practices for Enhancing Productivity and Resource Use Efficiency in Major Cropping Systems”, organized by Division of Agronomy, SKUAST-Jammu, concluded today.
The training was attended by Scientists from different SAUs; UGC recognized Universities from the States of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Department of Agriculture of Jammu. The experts from different prestigious institutes of the country were invited to deliver their valuable lectures on different aspects of conservation agriculture besides by Scientists from the host institute.
In the valedictory function, Prof R K Gupta, Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Jammu suggested that different practices of conservation agriculture should be promoted among farming community for efficient resource conservation in the changing climatic era. He advised the participants to apply the acquired knowledge on conservation agriculture during the training programme in their respective fields of research.
Dr D P Abrol, convener of the training programme and Dean, FoA, advocated organizing such type of trainings in future as this provides an opportunity to the young scientific community to update their scientific know-how. The trainees were very much satisfied with the course contents and training material provided by the experts. Pre and post evaluation tests of participants of training programme were also conducted to assess the gain of knowledge about different aspects of conservation agriculture.
Prof Anil Kumar, Division of Agronomy presented welcome address while Prof B C Sharma, Course Director, gave a detailed account of the different activities undertaken during the training programme. The programme was also attended by Dr S K Gupta, Director Education; Dr Deepak Kher, Director Planning and Monitoring; Dr S E H Rizvi, Dean, F B Sc; Rajesh Talwar, Registrar and Comptroller; Dr Dileep Kachroo, Co-convener of the training programme; Dr Anil Kumar, Dr B R Bazaya, Dr Meenakshi Gupta and Dr Ramphool Puniya. The programme concluded with the formal vote of thanks by Dr B R Bazaya.
